Song To Song (2017) Review

When i first saw this trailer, i was like HOLY SH*T! The cast is really great (for me)! and i can’t wait to watch this film. And then last month ago, I watched it. Finally! And my opinion about this film is full of emotion. Well, I must say,  this is just hit me right into my hearts. Maybe not everyone will enjoyed this film because it’s kind of typical indie film.

In this film, you can see that the plot is being told by the characters mostly. There’s just 50% of conversation and the rest is the characters tell us about it, like their feelings. And I really love their characters, each role has a different problem. Sometimes what they are saying  is inspired me or make me think about love. I like the way that this film really show us about confusion of love or self within words and it makes us thinked about it too. And I love it. Oh yes, about the cinematography i think it’s great.

The title “Song to Song” has something to do with the film because we will see this complicated love story in set of Austin music and yes, you will see some musicians too. For the cast, i think they played the role well! What i don’t like about this film is the story between Ryan Gosling’s role and Cate Blancett’s role ended up not clear enough (or maybe i didn’t pay attention?)

“We thought we could just roll and tumble, live from song to song, kiss to kiss.”

So, in short summary the story is about triangles love, betrayal, self-discovery and reach our dreams. I think the ending is perfect!

The Cast:

  • Rooney Mara as Faye
  • Ryan Gosling as BV
  • Michael Fassbender as Cook
  • Natalie Portman as Rhonda

Directed by Terrence Malick

Score from Metacritics 5.4

Score from me 8.0/10

So what do you think about this film? Let me know!
